Café Batavia , Taman Fatahillah, Kota. One of the city's best and most popular places, serving delicious Chinese, Indonesian and Western dishes, and over sixty cocktails. Nightly live jazz and soul. Pricey. Open 24 hours.
Dua Musim , Jl Wahid Hasyim 71a. Huge and trendy fresh-fish restaurant with equally vast selection of seafood, including lobster (Rp19,500) and crabs.
Le Bistro , Jl Wahid Hasyim 71. Classy French restaurant hidden behind a wealth of foliage and serving terrific French food; main courses around Rp30,000.
Oasis , Jl Raden Saleh 47 (tel 021/3150646). Jakarta's finest, this historic restaurant is housed in a 1920s Dutch villa in Cikini, complete with crystal chandeliers and enormous stained-glass window. The menu ranges from steak tartare to rijsttaffel and is expensive but worth it.
Pasar Laut , Jl Wahid Hasyim 125. Mid-priced seafood restaurant where you select your seafood from tanks as you walk in. The kepiting (crabs), at about Rp16,000 per crab, are especially good.
