Belt In

31 King George St. Sun-Thurs 8.30am-7.30pm, Fri 8.30am-3pm.

A small shop selling a wide range of belts and buckles. The belts, all leather, are their own and can be made to order.

Bet HaBeged

50 Jaffa Rd. Sun-Thurs 8.30am-8pm, Fri 8.30am-2.30pm.

A reasonable West Jerusalem store selling jeans, shirts, skirts and tops. Nothing you couldn't find at home, but handy if you've forgotten something.

Melia

14 Frères, near the New Gate. Mon-Sat 8am-7pm.

A women's cooperative selling authentic Palestinian handicrafts, including shawls, dresses, purses, bags and cushions, hand-embroidered in traditional Palestinian designs. Prices are high but the quality matches.

Palestinian Needlework Shop

Mennonite Central Committee building, 79 Nablus Rd, Sheikh Jarrah (opposite Ambassador Hotel). Mon-Fri: summer 8am-7pm; winter 8am-6pm: Sat 10am-5pm.

Another women's cooperative, selling embroidery from the West Bank, woven Bedouin rugs and bags from the Negev, plus olivewood carvings from Bethlehem.

Shesh Kefa

1 HaSoreg, by Havilio Square at the bottom of Rivlin. Sun-Thurs 9am-9pm, Fri 9am-4pm.

Women's clothes by Israeli and foreign designers. Israeli labels can be very chic, there's a good range here to check out, but prices can be high when compared to equivalent European clothes.

Stern's

Omar Ibn al-Khattab Square, just inside the Jaffa Gate. Sun-Thurs 9am-6pm, Fri 9am-3pm, Sat 11am-6pm.

The Jerusalem branch of the upmarket American jewellers (who also have a duty-free branch at Ben Gurion airport), worth popping into simply to be dazzled by the array of sparklers.

Yarmulke shop

37 Jaffa Rd. Sun-Thurs 9am-7.30pm, Fri 9am-2pm.

An unnamed shop selling attractive, embroidered Yemeni-style yarmulkes (though these can be worn just as hats), plus more obviously religious little knitted ones, and a selection of non-religious hats. These include the traditional kibbutz hat, which provides excellent protection from the sun (if it's really roasting, you can wear it wet and let the evaporation cool your head even more).
