Taipei 101 is currently the tallest building in the world, measuring 508 metres (ground to structural top) over 101 floors (hence the name). The skyscraper's shape is like a square bamboo with four sides. Taipei 101 can withstand earthquakes (no damage was caused by a 6.8 earthquake in 2002).
The National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall was inaugurated in 1980, five years after the death of the founder and first president of Taiwan, Chiang Kai Shek. The memorial consists of a huge open space with a white and blue mausoleum containing a bronze statue of Chiang Kai Shek, a big white and blue gate and two buildings, the National theatre and the National concert hall.
